Proflex Oct 12–16 — Rotation Not Correction, OpenAI $50B vs $70B, 5.3% Is the New 5%

Proflex Market Update — Week Oct 12-16, 2026

Rotation, Not Correction | The $50B Headline That Wasn’t | 5.3% Is the New 5% | Diesel, the Black Swan

"One misread revenue headline took 4% off the semis, and the equal weight index still rose. This market is not correcting. It is rotating, and it is too leveraged to sit still."
— Proflex Panel

The S&P 500 closed at a record 7,818.93 on Tuesday and the Nasdaq 100 set its own record at 31,224 the same day. Then on Thursday the Financial Times reported that OpenAI’s annualized revenue was near $50 billion, not the $70 billion the market had been told. The semiconductor ETF fell 2.8% that day, touched $600.32 and finished the week at $603.33, down 4.3%.

Everything else held up. The S&P still finished the week up 1.2% at 7,811. The equal weight S&P rose 1.6%. A strong 10 year auction pulled the yield back to 5.24%. And by Friday the FT had added an update: the $50 billion was net revenue, the $70 billion was gross. Two figures for the same business, counted two ways.

The question for this week is not whether the AI trade is over. It is whether the semis hold $600 through CPI on Wednesday and TSMC on Thursday, while the rest of the market keeps doing the work.
